Tempo
Tempo is a blockchain purpose-built for stablecoin payments at scale, which its own site describes as putting payments ahead of everything else. The difference it names is that fees are paid in US dollar stablecoins rather than in a volatile gas token, which makes it a settlement layer designed around the thing being settled.
Its published positioning is a stablecoin-native settlement layer for global payments, designed for payments at scale, and a base network of its own rather than a layer running on somebody else's. Its site names two incubators. One is Stripe. The other is Paradigm. Paying fees in US dollar stablecoins is the design choice the site puts foremost, on the stated grounds of predictable costs and simpler accounting.
For an agent payment the fee currency is not a detail. Where a network charges gas in its own token, a payer holding a stablecoin and nothing else needs somebody to cover that fee — which is the arrangement x402's gas-sponsoring extensions describe. A network whose fee is denominated in the same asset as the payment removes the second currency rather than sponsoring it.
It appears in this glossary because the rails name it. MPP's core specification is co-authored out of the company behind this network. Stripe's machine-payments documentation lists the network among those it settles stablecoin payments on.
